Maybe it is just that so many people are still off for the summer, but the way this Spaghetti Monster thing has caught on is amazing. In addition to many news reports, boing boing has started a contest, offering lots of cash ($250K but the pot is up to $1m) to someone to disprove the theory that the world was created by the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I don't know how long this craze will last, but the fact thatso many people are interested and they are already so flush with visuals and merchandise on cafe press seems to say that it will have some pretty good legs. It could likely backfire as people who have never heard or even considered ID before will start wondering about it. On the other hand, if the only way they hear about it is in the context of the spaghetti monster, that says a great deal about its validity. Anyway, it would be a good option for some students to watch the news develop on it.
My favorite part of the site, other than the awesome images and the attempt to come up with a bible that is happening on the forums section, is the academic endorsements section.
