GMU Salary Information

I can't imagine how long this took to compile, but it is a fairly interesting database. I am most upset by the fact that Vernon Smith gets paid more than the provost and John O'Conner gets paid more than Dean Muir--the first more than the second.

Frum Social Mundial: "This is, in our view, a potentially disastrous development. One of the great beauties of our movement - and of the forums that have emerged from and helped to sustain it - is the way in which people from all sorts of backgrounds and with the most diverse preoccupations come and mix together, participating in a process of mutual contamination in which we learn and gain confidence from one another. This dynamic was greatly weakened by the thematic fragmentation and vast size of the WSF site in Porto Alegre this year "

Callinicos has a good point--one that seems to follow all sorts of academic and intellectual trends: as a subject area grows, it fragments into little ghettos of interest so that people can focus on their pet persepectives.

it's refreshing when an ideology catches on that isn't out to make people hate each other.

Most of this from the meta filter thread on the subject. I remember making fun of Joel's religion growing up. He was a good sport. So much of what I mocked before now seems so reasonable. Makes me know that someday I will think the me I am now was such a dope. Silly me-now.

Blackspot Sneaker

The other option to this, which I quite like, is to simply begin producing nike shoes
under different conditions. Produce a version of Nike shoes, from the ground up,
with labor that is completely sweatshop free. You couldn't do it in mass quantity, but
you could probably do it enough to make a statement about the vacuuity of what Nike
is actually claiming to sell and own.

This could be really amazing if they don't fuck it up. Video is becoming an even more important medium and this generation seems to be only engaged for about 15 minutes at a time.

this could be a really interesting service if it caught on. I wish it would have options, however, so that you could have more of a conversation and/or you could give input on an item you don't want. It is an interesting project in creating a critical mass, but it is still a poor substitute for civil society.
